This is a lovely little restaurant with supposedly great ambiance, however, we were seated near the entrance and it was not as nice as the sections in the back. The food was decent but did not quite live up to expectations. The oysters were fresh and tasty, the bread was delicious but the starter and the main were a bit underwhelming. The kingfish sashimi was ok but a bit overdressed. The blue eye cod with seared scallops was tasty but the sauce was a bit thin and watery. I would rather not say anything about the house-made ice cream.
The service was impeccable and overall it was a semi-enjoyable experience.
Tucked away in a quiet neighbourhood with plenty of parking, Rubicon delivered not only excellent food but also impeccable service.
They allowed me (a table of 1) to have the degustation which is generally reserved for 2 or more. Some other restaurants don't have flexibility around this so I appreciated their flexibility.
Their degustation is also interesting whereby you can select any 5 or 6 from the menu to try. They just adjust portions accordingly.
I went for the 6 course and had the oysters, kingfish, prawn, duck, eye fillet and the chocolate parfait and they were all excellent! The duck may have been a little too undercooked for my comfort but was still great.
Highly recommended if you are visiting Canberra and want a nice night out.
I was there dining alone and the staff were so accommodating. The service was amazing.
However, the food was just alright in my opinion and the portion was super small compared to the price.
Sensational food and service on a Tuesday night. Wait staff were very attentive and knowledgeable. All requests were dealt with professionally - including a double up of duck bric 😀. We celebrated a team milestone and it was a worthy venue to do so.

One of my favourite restaurants in Australia. It's quietly tucked away in a nice area. The setting and atmosphere are delightful. The food is of the highest quality and the wines are well kept. The staff are extremely nice and welcoming. If you're looking for the best dining experience in Canberra, Rubicon is your choice.
Food was extremely high quality, and service was impeccable. Unfortunately, the waiting times among courses were too much. I understand the restaurant had a full house, and that providing consistent quality for each guest takes time. Yet, three hours for five courses is excessive. This is the only reason I will give 4 stars to an otherwise great restaurant, which I highly recommend.
Probably one of the more romantic, upscale type of restaurant I’ve been to. The atmosphere, decor and music are all very exclusive, and I love how sectioned off parts of the restaurant are so you feel you have some privacy and aren’t over hearing other people’s conversations. Food was delicious and the plating was beautiful. Gnocchi and kingfish sashimi were probably my favourites, and the yabbies were lovely too. Not my favourite beef tartare personally though. But overall delicious. Great service!
